Thirteen years ago, when a federal judge refused to allow a woman attorney to use her maiden name, the Pennsylvania Women's Bar Association was born. In ruling in favor of an airline baggage handler who claimed his employer, U.S. Air, is responsible for psychiatric treatment allegedly necessitated by a work-related neck injury, the majority of a split en banc Pennsylvania court panel zeroed in on the fact that worker Wayne Huddy exhibited no mental problems prior to that injury. Reversing the Workers' Compensation Appeal Board, the majority concluded that Huddy's benefits following his neck injury should also cover related depression and anxiety.
