Flight Plans: Fewer Summer Associates Spread Their Wings at Big-Tex Firms This Year
The number of Texas summer associate positions this year is down 8.9 percent from the 1,040 slots available to law students during the summer of 2007 at 24 of Texas' 25 largest firms, according to Texas Lawyer's annual Summer Associates Survey. Hilgers & Watkins Settles Legal Malpractice Case for $2.9 Million
Eight former members of Austin, Texas-based Hilgers & Watkins have settled a legal malpractice case for $2.9 million. Lawyers allege that the attorneys -- seven of whom are now with Austin firm Brown McCarroll -- helped a now-defunct high-risk loan operation cheat Michael McCarthy and his Austin companies Gowran LLC and MGM Holdings out of $4.5 million. The defendants' attorney says his clients deny any wrongdoing.
