65 Judicial Hearing Officers Continue Roles as Volunteers

Judge Lawrence K. Marks, administrative director of the state court system, said the volunteers, who were among nearly 300 JHOs who lost their jobs last month due to the state courts' cash crunch, are serving at all levels of the courts statewide and the number of volunteers is expected to rise in coming months. "Obviously, they enjoy handling cases and want to continue to do that," Judge Marks said. "But there is also a commendable public interest spirit that is a factor here."
