Bristol-Myers Squibb began a $2.4 billion cash tender offer for Medarex Tuesday, which equals $16 per share of Medarex stock, a 90 percent premium over the closing price of $8.40 right before the deal was announced on July 22. Also, IBM, the world's largest provider of computer services, announced it would acquire analytics software maker SPSS for $1.2 billion in cash and Swedish wireless company Ericsson announced it had submitted a winning bid of $1.3 billion for the wireless assets of Nortel Networks, snatching up the bankrupt Canadian telecommunications company's most profitable asset.
