Financially strained investment bank Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc., has decided to sell its 20 percent stake in Bloomberg LP, the financial news, media and data provider, back to the blind trust owned by New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg for $4.5 billion. When the deal is completed, Mr. Bloomberg will own 92 percent of the company he founded. Also, Israel-based drugmaker Teva Pharmaceutical Industries has announced its acquisition of U.S. rival Barr Pharmaceuticals Inc. in an $8.9 billion deal.
