Federal authorities in New York announced Thursday the indictment of 13 people -- including a former Morgan Stanley compliance lawyer and her husband, also an attorney -- on insider trading charges. The U.S. Attorney's Office in New York claims the defendants took part in two insider trading rings, the smaller of which was allgedly fed by Randi Collotta, a former member of Morgan Stanley's global compliance group who passed along non-public information about mergers and acquisitions transactions.

A husband and wife who are lawyers admitted Thursday to passing on insider information about pending deals at Morgan Stanley. Randi Collotta wept as she confessed to a federal judge that she revealed information about a 2005 merger involving Macromedia and Adobe Systems -- information she acquired in her role as a compliance officer at the investment bank. The couple's arrest was part of a government insider trading sweep considered to be one of the largest since the insider trading scandals of the 1980s.

Krispy Kreme Wins Trademark Claims Against Franchisee

Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corp. has won an injunction blocking a delinquent franchisee from operating in New York's Pennsylvania Station and another location. A federal judge granted the preliminary injunction on the grounds that Satellite Donuts was behind on its obligations under its agreements with Krispy Kreme and is in violation of the Lanham Act. Krispy Kreme alleged that Satellite was infringing its marks by continuing to operate without authorization and diluting the marks by making substandard doughnuts.
