California High Court Agrees to Set Bounds on Punitives
The California Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to decide the boundaries for punitive damage awards under state law. The court granted review in two cases in which state appeal courts, interpreting a landmark 2003 U.S. Supreme Court opinion on punitives, ended up with drastically different results -- so different that the state Judicial Council has backed off updating its instructions to civil juries until the California high court rules.Trending Stories
