Appeals Court Will Consider Jewell Public Figure Ruling
Georgia's Court of Appeals will review a judge's ruling that declared security guard Richard Jewell a "limited public figure" in his libel suit against the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The court granted Jewell's application for interlocutory appeal. "We need an answer as to whether a private citizen is going to be elevated to the status of a public figure simply because he or she agrees, as an eyewitness, to give an interview about a newsworthy event." says Jewell's attorney.Daily Decision Service Alert: Vol. 20, No. 194 - October 7, 2011
