Many lawsuits are disappearing because the lawyers say they now have sufficient experience with the federal fund set up to compensate World Trade Center victims that they are confident injured workers will be treated fairly. Rather than pursuing litigation, they will drop their suits and seek compensation from the fund.

Plaintiffs Seek $2 Billion in Massive Toxic Tort Suit Against Ford

In what may be one of the largest toxic tort suits in New Jersey history, more than 700 plaintiffs are seeking $2 billion or more from Ford Motor Co. for contamination of 900 acres in Ringwood, N.J. The company owned the land and dumped waste products there from its Mahwah plant, which closed more than 25 years ago. The property is the first in the nation that the Environmental Protection Agency has sought to relist on its National Priorities List of Superfund sites after having been removed.
