What is a broker-dealer? After years of studying Internet financial portals that offer financial services and products, the Securities and Exchange Commission is still looking for an answer. Former Hollinger GC Passes the Buck in Fraud Trial

Associates Survey 2008

To find out how Midlevel associates rate their firms as workplaces, our annual midlevel survey examined 12 areas that contribute to job satisfaction. They include relations with partners and other associates, the interest and satisfaction level asso-ciates have in their work, training and guidance, policy on billables, management openness about firm strategies and partnership chances, the firm?s attitude toward pro bono work, compensation and benefits, and the respondents? inclination to stay at their firm for at least two more years. Respondents graded their firms on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest score. On this chart, firms with ten or more responses are ranked by their averages on those questions. Averages include responses from all participating of-fices. For definitions of national and international firms, and for other details, see our methodology

The coalition is asking that all Cook County judges be disqualified from hearing the cases that include torture allegations. A court is expected to rule on the motions on Thursday.

Black Verdicts Are In, but the Case Is Far From Over

Despite the guilty verdicts reached last week in the trial of media tycoon Conrad Black, there's still plenty of litigation to come for attorneys involved in cases related to alleged fraud at the former newspaper company Hollinger International. Hollinger, which has been renamed Sun-Times Media Group Inc., and former directors and executives of the company, still face a civil lawsuit brought by shareholders. In addition, the four defendants in the criminal case may seek to overturn their convictions.
