Music Giant EMI Conducting Post-Takeover Legal Review

The legal department of music giant EMI is set for a major overhaul in the wake of the company's acquisition by private equity group Terra Firma earlier this year. EMI general counsel Chris Ancliff, who took on the top legal job at the struggling entertainment company when former GC Charles Ashcroft stepped down from the role in February, is overseeing the review. Ancliff says he had no immediate plans to make any cuts to EMI's in-house legal team, which currently numbers around 90 lawyers worldwide.

Legal Week's 2006-07 figures also show average profits per equity partner going up by 13.5 percent. What's more, the four largest firms generated �4.18 billion in fees among them, nearly 40 percent of the top 50's income. Clifford Chance managing partner David Childs said the results vindicated the big four firms' investment in their foreign offices.
