It is undeniable that there has been a noticeable uptick in incidents of racist and xenophobic harassment across the country. While this behavior is often publicized when it occurs between civilians at the local grocery store, such incidents are increasingly prevalent in the employment context and can take place between and among all levels of employees. Harassing behavior can occur by supervisors and managers against subordinates by and between co-workers, and by nonemployees against employees.

Few topics these days are blazing as brightly as the issue of medical marijuana. In April 2016, Pennsylvania became the 24th state to legalize the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes. Used to treat an enumerated list of "serious medical conditions" including epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and cancer, Pennsylvania lawmakers have emphasized the scientific research supporting the improvements made in patients suffering extreme and debilitating symptoms.

It's unfair to be too critical of lawyers who are quick to throw up their hands at preliminary junctures of civil disputes and repeat the oh-so-common mantra, "See you in court!" After all, we were trained in law school to be zealous advocates and the judicial system is geared to reward steadfast—sometimes just plain obstinate—adherence to a "strong" legal position. Consistently pounding the law, even when connection to the facts is tenuous, often results in victory and, in most situations, at least produces even odds of success.

In the 1990s and early 2000s, Pennsylvania was known as the puppy mill capital of the East—if not the entire United States. There were over 350 licensed large-scale breeding kennels, often housing hundreds of dogs each, as well as countless unlicensed kennels. Prioritizing profits over the dogs' wellbeing, many of these large commercial kennels provided obscenely unsanitary and inhumane housing, little or no veterinary care for the dogs and kept the breeding dogs in cages or kennels for their entire lives. The dogs often got no exercise, had no protection from extremes of heat and cold and suffered from splayed paws as a result of having to stand on wire mesh rather than a solid floor.
