A woman who was left permanently disabled in a crash between a commuter bus and a school bus agreed to a $4 million settlement in her Middlesex County suit, Carhuff v. Academy Express LLC, on Feb. 13.

Christine Carhuff, now 36, was riding a commuter bus on Route 9 in Old Bridge on Jan. 10, 2013, when it struck a school bus belonging to the Old Bridge Township Board of Education. The commuter bus was driving on the right shoulder—which buses are permitted to use as a travel lane from 5 a.m. until 9 a.m.—when the school bus driver made a right turn from the right lane, crossing the path of the other vehicle, said plaintiff lawyer Andrew Calcagno of Calcagno & Associates in Cranford.
