In recognition of their contributions to the practice of family law, Ellen Schwartz and Brian McFadden-DiNicola received the 2017 Edward Schoifet Family Law Award and Martin S. Goldin Family Law Award, respectively, at the Middlesex County Bar Association’s Jan. 18, 2017, general membership dinner meeting at The Pines Manor in Edison. The Schoifet Award, the highest honor presented by the Family Law Section, commemorates the legacy of Edward Schoifet, who passed away in 2006, and was considered the dean of the Middlesex County family bar and was recognized as a role model for all family law practitioners. The award is presented annually to a family law practitioner who has been engaged in the practice for 15 years or more and who exemplifies those principles by which Schoifet practiced family law. Schwartz was chosen by her colleagues to receive the Schoifet Award in honor of her 31-year career as a family law attorney. She is a partner at the East Brunswick law firm of Ramatowski, Spilka & Schwartz. The Goldin Award commemorates the legacy of Martin Goldin, the chair of the Middlesex County Bar Association’s Family Law Section from its inception in 1972 until his passing in 2002. The award is presented annually to a family law practitioner who has been engaged in the practice for 15 years or less and who exemplifies those principles by which Goldin practiced family law. McFadden-DiNicola is a partner at the New Brunswick law firm of Hoagland, Longo, Moran, Dunst & Doukas.
