The New Jersey Association for Justice has presented its second annual Gerald B. O’Connor Award to four outstanding attorneys. The awards were presented to Jack Wurgaft, Cary Cheifetz, Justin Walder and Lewis Stein during a ceremony on Nov. 17, 2016, held at the Hilton Meadowlands Hotel in East Rutherford. The award honors the memory of O’Connor, a longtime member of NJAJ whose professionalism earned him the respect of the entire bar. “It is important as an organization that we acknowledge and pay tribute to those in our profession who consistently display skill, creativity and professionalism in their work representing clients who have been harmed through the actions or negligence of others,” NJAJ President Michael Donahue III said during the award ceremony.

Horn Receives 2016 Professional Lawyer of the Year Award

Lawrence (Larry) Horn of Sills Cummis & Gross in Newark was selected by the Association of the Federal Bar and the New Jersey Commission on Professionalism in the Law to receive a 2016 Professional Lawyer of the Year Award. These awards are given annually to lawyers from bar associations across New Jersey who set a positive example for others in the profession by their conduct, competence and demeanor. The award ceremony took place Nov. 3, 2016, at The Imperia in Somerset. Horn is chair of Sills Cummis’ business crimes and tax litigation practice groups. He received his B.A. from Princeton University, cum laude, in 1966 and his J.D. from New York University School of Law in 1969. He was an assistant U.S. attorney for the District of New Jersey from 1971-78, where he specialized in tax fraud prosecutions. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York.
