The New Jersey Senate Judiciary Committee has recommended tenure for 14 sitting Superior Court judges, an initial term for one of Republican Gov. Chris Christie’s former key aides; three new administrative law judges; and a new workers’ compensation judge.

The committee held confirmation hearings for the nominees on Monday. It temporarily tabled consideration of two tenure nominees: Morris County Superior Court Judge Philip Maenza, who drew opposition from family court litigants who had appeared before him, and Hudson County Superior Court Judge Marybeth Rogers, after questions were raised about the number of her rulings that had been overturned on appeal.

The committee, in an 8-4 vote, recommended confirmation of Superior Court nominee Deborah Gramiccioni of Wall Township, Christie’s former deputy chief of staff and deputy executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

The committee, without opposition, recommended tenure for Appellate Division Judges Mary Gibbons Whipple and Francis Vernoia; and Superior Court Judges Joseph Paone, Alberto Rivas and Lisa Vignuolo of Middlesex County; James DeMarzo of the Morris County/Sussex; John Porto and Joseph Marczyk of Atlantic County/Cape May County; Robert Kirsch of Monmouth County, Daniel D’Alessandro of Hudson County; Ronald Wigler of Essex County; Frances McGrogan of Bergen County; Edward McBride Jr. of Camden County; and Anthony Massi of Mercer County.
