On Oct. 5, the Newark law firm of Sills Cummis & Gross celebrated its 45th anniversary and the upcoming election of the 45th president of the United States of America by hosting a client event featuring a cocktail reception and a presentation by guest speakers and noted political pundits, David Axelrod and Michael Murphy. The event took place at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark. Insights and humor abounded as Axelrod and Murphy fielded questions at the heart of this noteworthy election. Sills Cummis managing partner Max Crane stated: “We wanted to thank our clients by including them in our celebration and what better way to do it than a party at a great venue with great speakers. The election of the 45th President serendipitously coincided with our 45th anniversary and gave rise to an informative discussion with speakers who are at the center of the campaign.”

Rose to Receive Alice Paul Equality Award

Mary Ellen Rose, managing partner of Capehart Scatchard in Mount Laurel, will be a 2017 recipient of the Alice Paul Equality Award. The annual award is given by the Alice Paul Institute, located in Mount Laurel. The award is named in memory of Alice Stokes Paul, who was born in Mount Laurel in 1885. Paul was a women’s rights activist who played a key role in the women’s suffrage movement that led to the passage of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in 1920, and continued to fight for women’s equality and was active in the movement until her death in 1977. The award is given to individuals from any industry or field who capture the spirit of Alice Paul, and as a consequence, either directly or indirectly, continue her mission of advancing women’s equality in America. Rose focuses her practice in the areas of commercial and business law, transportation and franchise law. She received her undergraduate degree magna cum laude from West Virginia University and her law degree from Rutgers Law School-Camden. She is admitted to practice in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
