Perhaps there is less fanfare, but in-house lawyers play a vital role in the bar.

Through a combination of outside nominations and independent editorial research, the New Jersey Law Journal was alerted to legal departments who represented their companies in noteworthy and often innovative ways. Some of these departments successfully ferried their corporations through challenging litigation or major transactions; others were creative in working with outside counsel, or showed a commitment to their communities. In some cases, they even proved to be profit centers for their companies.
