In a decision that municipal practitioners say highlights discovery disputes that commonly crop up, the New Jersey Supreme Court has ruled that municipal prosecutors must share evidence, including videos, gathered from police departments outside their immediate jurisdictions when more than one department is involved in an arrest.

The high court ruled unanimously in State v. Stein that municipal prosecutors, who had secured a driving while intoxicated conviction against Robert J. Stein, had the obligation to turn over any relevant information that a nearby police department had potentially gathered during the arrest.
