A bicyclist who sustained a brain injury in a collision with a car settled his Union County suit, Batista v. McVeigh, on June 8 for $995,000.

In December 2012, Jose Batista was riding on the shoulder of Main Street in Chatham, passing a line of traffic on the right. A motorist heading in the opposite direction, Patrick McVeigh, stopped to turn left into a shopping center. When the line of traffic on Batista’s side of road parted and McVeigh was waved through, he turned left, and Batista collided with McVeigh’s vehicle, striking his head on the rear passenger’s side window, according to David Fried of Blume Forte Fried Zerres & Molinari, Batista’s lawyer.
