The New Jersey Senate Judiciary Committee on May 7 unanimously recommended passage of legislation that would restrict when criminal defendants may invoke a privilege that bars communication between spouses from being admitted into evidence.

The bill, A3636/S2392/S2408/S2411, now goes to the full Senate for consideration. The original bill passed the Assembly in a 73-0 vote Dec. 15, 2014.
