A state appeals court has upheld the dismissal of a lawsuit claiming a New Jersey law firm committed legal malpractice when it sued a dentist for objecting to a settlement in a class action against insurers over allegedly fraudulent claims-payment practices.

The Appellate Division on April 27 affirmed dismissal of the suit against Mazie Slater Katz & Freeman, a Roseland firm, relying largely on the fact that the firm no longer was representing Newark dentist Gary Krugman when it sued him for allegedly attempting to thwart a settlement with Delta Dental.
