Urban Outfitters claims in a suit in federal court in Newark that Chicago-based Continental Casualty Co. has dodged more than $2 million in claims for property damage and lost business at the retailer’s stores resulting from Hurricane Sandy.

Continental Casualty has “engaged in conduct designed to harass and intimidate Urban Outfitters from seeking the insurance proceeds rightfully due under the policy,” according to the Sept. 22 suit. The insurance company has made burdensome, unreasonable and duplicative information requests and has given conflicting and untenable characterizations of the coverage afforded by the policy, the suit claims.
