New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has said on numerous occasions that he wants his chief of staff, Kevin O’Dowd, to be the state’s next attorney general, but it now appears uncertain whether O’Dowd will step into that role in the near future.

Christie announced at the beginning of his second term that he wanted O’Dowd to succeed Acting Attorney General John Hoffman. Christie had officially nominated O’Dowd in December 2013, but that nomination died when the legislative term ended with no action being taken.
