Presidential Material—New Jersey lawyer Cornell William Brooks has been chosen as the 18th National President and CEO of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the group announced May 17.

“[He] is a pioneering lawyer and civil rights leader, who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Association,” Roslyn Brock, chairman of the NAACP Board of Directors, said of Brooks, who heads the urban research and advocacy organization New Jersey Institute for Social Justice in Newark.
