A New Jersey appeals court on Wednesday overturned a $3 million jury verdict against the city of Newark won by a motorcyclist who was severely injured when he ran into a pothole, citing errors at trial that prejudiced the defense.

“Public entities, like all other litigants, are entitled to a fair trial,” wrote Judge Allison Accurso for the Appellate Division panel in Roura v. Newark.
