Bronze Star — Former Gov. Brendan Byrne got the bronze treatment on Oct. 3 with the unveiling of Newark’s newest attraction: a 7-foot, 800-pound statue in his likeness.

The looming figure, standing in the aptly named Gov. Brendan T. Byrne Plaza on West Market Street, was created by sculptor Jay Warren. It captures Byrne, a Democrat who served as governor from 1974 through 1982, standing with hands folded and a thoughtful look on his face.
