The New Jersey Assembly on Monday passed a constitutional amendment and an enabling statute that would change the way judges of joint and central municipal courts are appointed.

The legislation, ACR-88 and A-1566, would amend art. VI, sec. 6, para. 1 of the state constitution, which now requires the governor to nominate judges for those courts, with the advice and consent of the Senate. The measures passed with identical votes of 77-0.
