The New Jersey Supreme Court ruled Thursday that lawyers cannot sue clients for unpaid fees while representing them, and it reprimanded a criminal defense attorney for doing so while preparing for a murder trial.
The justices held 5 to 1, In the Matter of Richard Simon, D-51-10, that such representation constitutes an impermissible conflict of interest.
