Suzanne Engelhardt, shown, is collaborating with Volunteer Lawyers for Justice (VLJ) of Newark on its new Newark Legal Advice and Resource Clinic for Consumers. Engelhartdt is VLJ’s managing attorney for the clinic, which provides legal assistance and limited-scope representation to low-income individuals on debt-collection issues. The program is the result of a public/private partnership among VLJ, the Essex Vicinage’s Civil Part, Newark and Newark Now, with participation from volunteer attorneys at McCarter & English, Prudential Financial, Merck & Co. Inc., and AT&T. The Essex County Superior Court will host the clinic three times a month at the Hall of Records in Newark.

Lowenstein Makes Donations to Newark Children

Attorneys and staff at Lowenstein Sandler in Roseland donated more than 400 toys, as well as more than $1,500 in cash and gift cards, to Kids Corp., a nonprofit organization that provides academic and developmental support programs for children in Newark. The toy drive, completed on Dec. 21, was part of the Lowenstein Sandler Community Service Initiative, which expands the firm’s community work beyond pro bono service to offer nonattorneys the opportunity to participate in volunteer activities.
