McCarter & English of Newark and Hayward Industries of Elizabeth, a manufacturer of pool and spa equipment, have made contributions to keep Newark’s six neighborhood swimming pools open through the end of the summer. McCarter donated $10,000 and Hayward, a client, donated $150,000. Lowenstein Is Battle of Barristers 2010 Champ

Lowenstein Sandler of Roseland unseated Cole, Schotz, Meisel, Forman & Leonard of Hackensack as champion in the 24th annual Battle of the Barristers softball tournament on July 20. Lowenstein took a 10-5 victory at the game at Montclair State University’s Yogi Berra Stadium. Cole, Schotz, the tournament winner for the past two years, organized this year’s event. As the winner, Lowenstein will organize the 2011 tournament. Other participants were Connell Foley; Genova, Burns & Giantomasi; Gibbons; McCarter & English; Prudential Financial Inc.; Sills Cummis & Gross; Walder, Hayden & Brogan; Trenk, DiPasquale, Webster, Della Fera & Sodono; PC/Bederson & Company; and Forman Holt Eliades & Ravin. The tournament is the Greater Newark Fresh Air Fund’s largest fundraiser, pulling in about $100,000 every year.
