Echoes of the Past — State Supreme Court Justice Roberto Rivera-Soto recused last Monday from a criminal case, apparently because the prosecutor handling the appeal had filed an ethics complaint against him last year.

On Feb. 3 last year, during oral arguments in the case of Jayson Williams, Rivera-Soto disclosed, in violation of a court order, the name of an investigator who uttered a racial slur about the former Nets player, now serving a five-year sentence for fatally shooting driver Costas “Gus” Christofi at Williams’ estate in Alexandria Township.
