Despite a moribund economy, New Jersey’s big law firms are making partners at about the same clip as last year and the year before — an apparent sign of optimism that even in these doldrums, when casting off of associates and staff will be the norm, there’s always room for more revenue generators.

This year’s New Partners Yearbook profiles 146 partners at N.J. firms or branch offices, who ascended or lateraled to that status since last March when our last yearbook was published. The total compares with 153 in last year’s issue and 149 in 2007. Notably, about 100 of the 146 were made partners after the bad economic news started hitting in September, and of those, 75 got promoted in early 2009, when the effects of the recession were being fully felt.
