In a decision that will ease tensions among New Jersey chiropractors, the state Supreme Court ruled on Wednesday that their practice isn’t limited to cricks of the spine, despite murky statutory authority.

The Court upheld a State Board of Medical Examiners regulation permitting treatment of a “related structure” — such as a knee — as long as there is a causal nexus between a condition of that structure and a condition of the spine.
