A $2.15 million settlement was reached on July 12 in Moorehouse v. Hesse for the estate of a 24-year-old man who was fatally injured when the brakes failed in dump truck he was operating for his employer.

On Jan. 6, 2021, Brandon Lawson was driving a dump truck owned by his employer, Galderese Trucking, traveling southbound on the Garden State Parkway when a catastrophic brake failure caused him to lose control of the vehicle. The truck overturned, and Lawson died of his injuries, according to counsel to his estate, Michael R. Hobbie of Hobbie & DeCarlo in Eatontown. The settlement was reached on July 12 during a single mediation session with James P. Courtney Jr., a retired Superior Court judge.
