Judge Aileen Cannon of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida has set May 2024 as the trial date for former President Trump‘s trial on the indictment related to his alleged unauthorized possession of, and failure to return, classified documents properly entrusted to the National Archives. The Special Counsel has requested Judge Tanya Chutkan of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia to set a January 2024 date for the trial on the indictment charging the former president with conspiracy to interfere with the results of the 2020 election and prevent the lawful transfer of government. A New York state judge has set a March 25, 2024 date for the state indictment alleging fraudulent reporting of payments to an adult film star, designed to prevent the release of information relating to her relationship with President Trump, as a business expense. And the Fulton County, Georgia District Attorney is requesting that the state indictment against the former president and 18 others relating to a RICO conspiracy to falsify the results of the election in Georgia be tried within six months. Scheduling problems in these cases will undoubtedly develop as the matters proceed and unfold.

In addition to the pending indictments, as of now there are two civil proceedings also pending against the former president. One is a civil fraud case commenced against him and family members by the Attorney General of New York. The other is a second defamation action filed against the former president by E. Jean Carroll who prevailed in a civil action against Mr. Trump this May in which a federal jury found that he sexually abused and defamed her.
