Despite being relatively small in stature, at least geographically, the state of New Jersey has always punched above its weight as a leader in complex litigation. This is partly due to New Jersey putting itself at the forefront of numerous legal advances, including the first-of-its-kind New Jersey Law Against Discrimination, the progressive New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act, and especially the development of modern products liability law eventually codified in the New Jersey Products Liability Act. There are also positive and negative legacies of the state’s rich industrial history, leading to no shortage of toxic exposure and products liability litigation. Also, and perhaps most importantly, arguably no other state has devoted the extensive financial resources, along with the skilled judicial and support personnel required, to successfully manage such a volume of novel and expansive litigations over the last several decades.

Whether out of innovation, necessity, a combination of both, New Jersey Superior Court has been at the center of complex litigation, particularly products liability litigation, and remains a driving force in the resolution of tens of thousands of cases nationwide.
