A bill that would expand the ability of Department of Labor employees to interpret labor law and employer compliance on behalf of the commissioner is gaining traction in the Legislature.

The bill, A-281, sponsored by Assemblymen Michael Torrissi, R-Atlantic, and Brandon Umba, R-Burlington, would authorize Department of Labor employees to advise employers on overtime wage laws. It passed the Assembly in a 78-1 vote on May 26.
