The recently released report by the Supreme Court Civil Practice Committee issued rule recommendations, largely addressing virtual procedures and electronic filing. Among the recommendations are suggestions by the Appellate Division for rule changes governing appellate briefs. Recognizing several Part 2 rules were “cumbersome and difficult to navigate,” the suggested modifications seek to improve appellate practice and “aid in the fair and efficient administration of justice in all cases” before the court.

A few of these changes were highlighted in a recent New Jersey Law Journal editorial entitled “Farewell, Courier Font,” a title aimed at Rule 2:6-10, which requires that appellate brief pages contain no more than “26 double-spaced lines of no more than 65 characters including spaces … [in] 12-point type.”
