The state of New York on Monday evening asked the U.S. Supreme Court to block New Jersey’s planned withdrawal from a 69-year-old compact between the two states to root out corruption and organized crime in the port of New York and New Jersey.

New York Solicitor General Barbara Underwood urged the justices to take original and exclusive jurisdiction over its complaint and to expedite review of the state’s request for a preliminary and permanent injunction prohibiting New Jersey from withdrawing from the Waterfront Commission Compact on March 28.
