The clock is now ticking for a New Jersey state inmate to pay a filing fee by Nov. 12. If he doesn’t, he’ll no longer be able to pursue a coronavirus-related civil rights claim against the governor and prison officials.

Allen Dupree Garrett, a state prisoner and frequent litigant, has filed a complaint seeking to be released from the Camden County Correctional Facility and for $100 million in damages. He claimed his speedy trial rights were violated and that correctional staff kept him there with “deliberate indifference” to his risk of contracting the novel coronavirus.
