It is hard to repeat high performance when playing against strong competition. Check any pro sports league. Complacency can set in. What worked last year isn’t guaranteed to work this year, and relying on that principle could in fact have a detrimental effect on success down the road. That’s especially true for law firms.

There are firms that are able to string many years of consistently strong financial performance together. But that end result is part of a process that is ongoing, regardless of the financial results, and the mechanisms that go into that development need to continually undergo transformation, even if things seem to be moving along well.
