A Miami lawyer has admitted trying to extort $7.5 million from a commercial bank over the summer.

Richard L. Williams, a 73-year-old attorney, pleaded guilty Tuesday to conspiring to transmit an interstate communication with the intent to extort. New Jersey prosecutors accused him of working with a client to threaten a bank into sending the money to keep quiet about allegedly damaging information.
