For practitioners in small or large firms struggling with concerns on reopening their law offices and successfully and safely transitioning from remote locations, the New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA) through its Pandemic Task Force Committee on Law Firm Opening and Operations has released a compilation of information and online resources on its website. The collection provides guidance on re-opening offices and returning employees safely to the office venue and takes a comprehensive approach to the complex problem by providing best practices and practical strategies.

Guidance on nine topics, part of the “Roadmap to Resilience” effort, covers topics ranging from Law Office Workplace Logistics to Best Practices Regarding Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Issues to Legal Liability Considerations. There is even a Report on Changes to Handbooks, Policies and Procedures, ensuring that workplace changes and expectations are integrated into the existing employment paradigm. The focus of the Health Screening and Monitoring Report provides guidance on the protection of employees without violating privacy rights. The compilation on this subject, for instance, explains how the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) permits reasonable symptom screening and exposure inquiries during a pandemic and suggests protocols that can be utilized without employers incurring violations. A sample text with a questionnaire for clients and guests who enter the office is also provided. The report cites to multiple online resources.
