Jeffrey J. Greenbaum, chair of the class action practice group at Sills Cummis & Gross in Newark, has been appointed chair of the American Bar Association Section of Litigation’s Federal Practice Task Force, and appointed a member of the Task Force on Efficient Justice, the firm announced. Both appointments were made by the by the chair of the ABA Section of Litigation. The Federal Practice Task Force develops policy positions and proposes improvements for consideration by the ABA House of Delegates. The Task Force on Efficient Justice is focused on pushing efforts to streamline state court litigation developed by the National Conference of State Courts, and others. The Section of Litigation is the largest section of the ABA, with more than 40,000 members, according to a statement by the ABA. 

Cahill Appointed to Essex Ethics Committee

Cahill , a partner in  Mandelbaum Salsburg ’s litigation department in Roseland, was appointed by the New Jersey Supreme Court to serve as vice chair of the District V-B Ethics Committee for Essex County, as of Sept. 1. In that role, Cahill will oversee the disposition of hearings involving allegations of attorney misconduct, the firm noted in a release. She also will be responsible for recruiting members and working to improve the efficiency of the attorney-monitored disciplinary system. The committee is coordinated by the Office of Attorney Ethics, which investigates and prosecutes attorney discipline matters. Cahill previously served as a committee investigator for two successive four-year terms. 

Gillespie Named Burlington Bar’s ‘Professional Lawyer of the Year’

John C. Gillespie, a partner, executive committee member, and chair of the municipal and government practice group at Parker McCay in Mount Laurel, has been named “Professional Lawyer of the Year” by the Burlington County Bar Association and Commission on Professionalism in the Law. The award goes to an attorney who is well respected and recognized for outstanding character and competence, and looked upon as a model of professional behavior, according to a release, which said Gillespie is being recognized for his professional accomplishments, community service, passion for the law, courtroom skills, and courtesy and professionalism toward his legal adversaries and peers. Gillespie began his law career 40 years ago and served two terms as a Burlington County Bar trustee, and previously accepted its highest honor, the Haines Award, in 2015, as well as the Robert W. Criscuolo Award in 1990. He is the first to receive all three honors from the organization. In his practice, Gillespie concentrates on municipal law, governmental defense litigation, land use and redevelopment.
