A man who lost a leg after his motorcycle collided with a delivery van settled his Essex County suit, Bodanski v. Kontos Foods, on May 12 for $1.7 million.

In July 2014, Leo Bodanski Jr. was riding on Sixth Avenue in Paterson, which consists mostly of commercial properties. A tractor-trailer making a delivery to the loading dock of a business on that street was jutting several feet into the street; as Bodanski rode around the tractor portion in the street, a delivery van parked in the loading dock bay next to the tractor-trailer began backing into the street, and the van’s bumper struck Bodanski’s right leg, causing the motorcycle to crash, according to Bodanski’s attorney, Phillip Wiskow of Gelman Gelman Wiskow & McCarthy in Elmwood Park.
