A state appeals court has ruled 2-1 that a teacher is not entitled to collect a higher rate of disability benefits for emotional trauma caused by a series of scuffles with high school students.

Jaclyn Thompson intervened three times in 2011 when unruly students acted out against others at North Hunterdon Regional High School. She sustained no physical injuries in those incidents, but afterward she suffered panic attacks and was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.
