SHARPLY CRITICIZING several New York Court of Appeals rulings as vague, a federal judge has ordered the resentencing of a man who killed a fellow Orange County resident when he was 15.

Southern District Judge Charles L. Brieant, who sits in White Plains, ruled that Brian Jones’ equal protection rights were violated when he was convicted and sentenced under depraved indifference murder rather than the less harsh reckless manslaughter.
