John Place has become executive director of Stanford University Law School’s Center for Internet and Society.

Place could rightly be called one of the first major Internet lawyers. In his four years as head of the legal department at Sunnyvale, California’s Yahoo! Inc., he was one of the first to deal with such issues as cross-licensing in e-commerce, privacy, and the potential liability issues raised by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
