Columbia Law School has announced a partnership with the University of Fortaleza in Brazil to expand the teaching of mediation and conflict resolution in Brazil and the United States. It will allow for student and scholarly exchanges between the two schools, Columbia Law said in a press release, as well as opportunities for faculty from both schools to teach abroad. Leaders from the Brazilian judiciary will also travel to Columbia Law to learn alternative dispute resolution techniques.

Columbia Law’s mediation clinic was founded in 1991 and is part of its alternative dispute resolution program. The clinic will be renamed the Edson Queiroz Foundation Mediation Program. Brazil-based conglomerate Grupo Edson Queiroz donated $533,600 to Columbia Law for the clinic through its Edson Queiroz Foundation, which works with the University of Flortaleza to support the development of various educational and vocational training projects in northeast Brazil.
